Born in Modesto, Ken was raised in a golfing family. Both parents, Vern and Marjean, introduced him to the game of golf at the age of 6. At 12 he started to take the game seriously under the tutelage of Del Rio Golf and Country Club Head Pro, Dale Mead, and 3 times PGA Tour winner, Dick Lotz. By age 13 he received an award from Del Rio Country Club as “most improved golfer,” going from a 20 handicap to a 1 handicap in one year. Ken attended Beyer High School and was a four-year MVP and a three-year League MVP. He also competed on the Junior Golf Association of Northern California circuit with numerous wins, and in 1982 was one of the country’s most heavily recruited junior golfers by the top collegiate golf schools: University of Arizona, Clemson University, Fresno State University, University of Houston, University of Illinois, University of Oklahoma, Oral Roberts University, Stanford University, and UCLA. He attended Fresno State University on a golf scholarship and played for the Bulldogs. Over the next 4 years he played numerous golf tours all over the U.S., Australia and Canada. In 1989 he retired from competitive golf and began teaching golf on a full time basis.
